Drug Desensitization

Drug Desensitization

When is drug desensitization necessary?

In cases where a patient has a history of a severe allergic reaction, administration of a particular medication may still be possible when that medication is absolutely necessary and cannot be replaced by an alternative.

How is drug desensitization performed?

The procedure involves the gradual and very careful administration of small, progressively increasing doses of the medication, with the aim of temporarily “tricking” the immune system and inducing a temporary state of tolerance.

Where is the procedure performed?

The procedure is carried out exclusively in a specially prepared and appropriately equipped medical setting, as there is a possibility of an allergic reaction occurring. The availability of immediate specialized medical support, should it be required, ensures the patient’s safety throughout the procedure.
